In his latest project for Structura Gallery, Simeon Simeonov seeks answers to questions that have long preoccupied him. They are related to the interaction between internal and external forces.
Each form carries its own tension and at the same time is in continuous “conversation” with the surrounding space. No matter how much we look inward and in depth to the core, to the cell, and look there for the root cause of things happening, they cannot exist without the environment. That is how life is set up and that is how it works.
In his sculptural installations, Simeon Simeonov physically outlines this problem by visualizing the lines of tension between the “core” and the space around. The metal rods that support the objects do not just represent support, but also dialogically connect them to their environment.
For the first time, the artist incorporates paper as a material in his characteristic creative approach. He makes cuts and folds that seek a new plasticity for the material and release tension.
The exhibition is supported by the National Culture Fund.
