Our world consists of solid structures, but the light shaded on them decides about the shapes we perceive. The Bulgarian artist in residency Stela Vasileva follows the geometrical definitions of the urban landscape and searches in between the sharpness of edges for ephemeral moments of shifting contours. The presence of light is mirrored in the tones of shadows which blur the lines between consistency and temporality.
Vasileva observes these dialogues and captures them in sensitive and fragile drawings. Back in the studio, complex glass sculptures, including found objects from her long strolls through the city, explore the interaction of constructions and illumination in a phenomenological dimension. Vasileva invites us to experiment with our vision through her objects, follow the forms and get lost in the multilayered options of structures and their appearances.

ART CORRIDOR
– residency programmes for Bulgarian artists abroad
Recognizing the importance of international cooperation and the integration of Bulgarian art on the global cultural scene, the two organizations are launching a long-term project that aims to position the achievements of our contemporary artists in a global context and give them maximum visibility.
The first residency will take place in August-September this year and will last one month. The partner organization ROAM, Berlin (https://www.roam-space.eu) is committed to accommodating and caring for the Bulgarian artist, to introducing him/her in detail to the audiences and institutions related to the art scene in Germany and to holding an exhibition at the end of the residency. This programme is in response to the partnership already started between Structura Gallery and Goethe-Institut Bulgaria, according to which three German artists will be in Sofia during the current year.
All expenses for the residency are covered by the Lachezar Tsotsorkov Foundation.
Applicants should send their portfolio in English in pdf format to: structuragallery@gmail.com. It should include a motivation for the residency up to 120 words.
The residency is aimed at artists with Bulgarian citizenship permanently residing in Bulgaria.
The decision will be made by an international jury of experts.
Deadline for submission: April 10, 2022
