Michael Sailstorfer is one of the most important representatives of a young generation of German conceptual and installation artists. With his inexhaustible wealth of ideas he manages to continually update the definition of sculptures and to locate this in socially relevant contexts. Characteristics of his practice is the translation of everyday artefacts in works which draw attention to the connections between sound and materiality, metaphysics and physicality. He studied under Olaf Metzel at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich and at Goldsmiths College in London. His works were shown in numerous art institutions and museums: Goethe-Institut Hong Kong, Hong Kong, Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt am Main, Contemporary Art Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, Rochester Art Center, Minnesota, Salsali Private Museum, Dubai and Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. Sailstorfer has a growing collectors’ base. In the meantime his works are represented in numerous private and public collections like Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, Mariano Pichler Collection, Milan, Paolo Kind, London, Städelmuseum, Frankfurt/Main and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis.
